"A Roman Palace City on the Dalmatian Coast"
Split grew within and around Diocletian's Palace, built for a Roman emperor around 305 AD, and today its ancient walls hold shops, cafés, and homes. Climb the cathedral bell tower, stroll the palm-lined Riva promenade, and hike Marjan Hill for sea views. Split is also the ferry hub for Hvar, Brač, and Vis, plus day trips to the Krka waterfalls and the Blue Cave. It makes a great counterpart to Dubrovnik on a Croatia itinerary.
