"Mozart's Fortress City on the Salzach"
Salzburg's Altstadt is a UNESCO-listed maze of plazas, churches, and Mozart sites under the white walls of Hohensalzburg Fortress. The Salzach River splits the old and new towns; Mirabell Gardens and the Getreidegasse shopping lane are easy walks. Day trips reach Hallstatt, the Salzkammergut lakes, and Eagle's Nest country. It works as a two- or three-night city break or a soft Alpine add-on after Vienna or Munich.
Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mirabell Gardens, Mozart's Birthplace, Getreidegasse, Salzburg Cathedral, Hellbrunn Palace, Sound of Music tour
May–September & December (Christmas markets)
Festung funicular saves the climb; book Mozart dinner concerts early in peak season; day-trip Hallstatt separately
Strong culture-and-romance short stay. Pairs well with Vienna, Munich, or a Salzkammergut lake loop.
