"The Rose-Red Treasury at the End of the Siq"
Petra, near Wadi Musa in southern Jordan, is a walking archaeological site rather than a modern city. Visitors pass through the Siq, a tall slot canyon, and come out at Al-Khazneh, the Treasury. The main trail continues to the Street of Facades, the theater, and royal tombs; a longer climb reaches the Monastery. Aqaba is the usual cruise port, about two hours away. Entry is by the Jordan Pass or a site ticket, and the visit needs sun protection, water, and sturdy shoes.
