Lake Como sits under the Alps in Lombardy, an hour or so from Milan. Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio face each other across the water, linked by public ferries, with ochre villas, gardens, and lakeside walks in each. There is no major ocean cruise here; the trip is about slow boats, a villa garden or two, and long lunches. It is a romance classic and it prices like one, especially in July and August.
