"A Medieval Square Beneath Wawel Castle"
Krakow survived the 20th century with its medieval core largely intact. The Main Market Square and Cloth Hall sit at the center, Wawel Castle rises above the Vistula, and the former Jewish district of Kazimierz is now full of cafes and synagogues. Many travelers add a solemn day trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau, and the nearby Wieliczka salt mine is an easy half day. Prices stay kinder than Western Europe.
