"Walled Old Town on a Fjord-Like Adriatic Bay"
Kotor's UNESCO old town sits at the tip of a deep bay often compared to a fjord. Orange-roofed stone houses fill the walls; a steep ladder of fortifications climbs the mountain behind. Cruise ships call regularly, and the town works as a two-night stay with boat trips to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks. Nearby Budva and the road to Durmitor offer beach and mountain add-ons. Summer is busy; shoulder seasons feel calmer.
Old Town walls & squares, San Giovanni Fortress hike, Bay of Kotor boat trip, Perast & Our Lady of the Rocks, Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, optional Lovćen or Budva day
May–June & September–October
Climb the fortress early before heat and crowds; wear sturdy shoes on the stone steps; cash still helps in smaller cafés
Excellent Adriatic cruise port and a quieter Dubrovnik alternative for land stays. Watch summer ship crowds at midday.
