"The Garden Isle of Hawaii"
Kauai is the oldest and greenest of the main Hawaiian Islands. The Nā Pali Coast's jagged sea cliffs are best seen by boat, helicopter, or the challenging Kalalau Trail, while Waimea Canyon—the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'—offers red-rock lookouts. The North Shore around Hanalei is lush and laid-back; the South Shore in Poipu has sunnier beaches and resorts. With no building taller than a palm tree, Kauai stays relaxed and less developed than Oahu or Maui.
