"Peace, Resilience & the Floating Torii"
Hiroshima has transformed from the site of the world's first atomic bombing into a green, welcoming city dedicated to peace. The UNESCO-listed Atomic Bomb Dome and the moving Peace Memorial Park and Museum are essential visits, while Hiroshima Castle and Shukkeien Garden showcase older history. A short train and ferry ride reaches Miyajima, where the great vermilion torii of Itsukushima Shrine appears to float at high tide and friendly deer roam the streets. Local okonomiyaki, layered with noodles and cabbage, is a must-try.
