Agra (Taj Mahal)
India
"Home of the World's Most Famous Monument of Love"
Agra, on the Yamuna River, is synonymous with the Taj Mahal, the white-marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Seeing it at sunrise, when the marble glows pink and gold, is unforgettable. The red sandstone Agra Fort, the delicate tomb nicknamed the 'Baby Taj,' and the Mehtab Bagh gardens across the river complete the visit. Fatehpur Sikri, an abandoned Mughal capital, is a short drive away. Agra is usually combined with Delhi and Jaipur on the Golden Triangle route.
